About Linda Thomson

LT-1

Hi, I'm Linda Thomson

I previously lived in Bulimba but when COVID hit in, my business went online. I took the opportunity of a lifetime and moved to Noosa, bought a four wheel drive and a horse. I am still currently in private practice.

My Cozy, beach office is located at 11b, Tewantin Plaza, 113 Poinciana  4565. I am also available to everybody, or even to interstate or overseas people by zoom or phone.

Education & Career

I completed a Human Service Degree, which then led to a varied career in Child Protection in Queensland.

I worked my way up to senior managerial positions roles, and there, I discovered my passion for counselling.

To embrace this passion, I completed a Master of Counselling in 2005 at QUT, specialising in relationship and trauma counselling. After which , I took on a role as a Counselling Service coordinator for Anglicare, responsible for supervising Counsellors and Psychologists.

I loved it - loved supervising other allied health professionals.

It was then that I embarked to do a Master of Social Work Studies. This allowed me to become a social worker member of AASW and led to me becoming an accredited mental health social worker and Medicare provider for counselling.

I also have an entrepreneur spirit which saw me complete a graduate diploma in Collective Entrepreneurship in 2018. It keeps me inspired in my business and journey into new ventures.

Taking the leap of faith to full time self-employment in 2013 was the best thing I ever did.

It allowed me to emerge in helping people heal. It helped transform my own life as I learnt constantly from my clients about life, especially in watching people embrace vulnerability in relationships, practicing self-compassion and overcoming the grip of shame.

These are all things that I had to learn in my life to be the best version of myself. So I know first-hand how powerful these skills are to develop.

My personal journey with self-compassion

I am dyslexic, which was not discovered until I had completed my first university degree.

As a result, I learned through my schooling, how to cover up any vulnerabilities with humour, which worked a treat but was not really helpful in relationships.

It was only as an adult, that I realised how much shame I had carried around, trying for many years to hide my impaired writing ability, especially as I entered the academic world.

To allow myself to become successful in my private and professional life, I had to learn to view my dyslexia through the eyes of self-compassion and to overcome the shameful feelings through practising vulnerability.

Of course, knowing heaps of highly successful people who are dyslexic helped as well.

Having to overcome this in my own life helps me to have compassion for the journey that my clients are on - often struggling with self-acceptance and self-love.

I see almost daily how having self-compassion, realizing shame, embracing vulnerability and understanding the psychology behind our behaviour, shows us how to change.

Learning to truly accept ourselves and love who we are can transform addictions, self-loathing, anxiety and dysfunctional relationships and bring positive change to ourselves, partners, friends and families.

My passion and what I love to do

I am very lucky to have found a career that I am passionate about. It never feels like going to work to me, as counselling is my heartfelt passion.

To be able to assist couples and individuals to meet their true potential and heal along the way is so humbling and magical to watch.

It is so inspiring to witness the human spirit evolve when freed from these burdens. I love being able to help people with the latest science that psychology offers.

As a life-long learner, I am constantly reading new books, attending courses, watching Ted Talks or researching literature on the human psyche, to be able to offer you the most up-to-date mental health treatments available.

How I spend my free time

I enjoy catching up with family and friends while sharing good food and wine.

I am just as happy dining out or cooking for a dinner party at home.

I am a total book and Ted Talk nerd who loves to travel. I prefer people and experiences over things.

I have a profound love for animals- especially horses, dogs and cats and to own one of each.

You will often find me in my spare time, riding my horse through the many beautiful locations that Noosa and it’s surrounds has to offer.

Occasionally, my dog may wander in and out of my office. Please advise me if you don't like dogs. That's totally not an issue.
